The Adrienne Arsht Center, in partnership with Johnson & Wales University, is excited for the return of the popular CELEBRITY CHEF SERIES for the 2009-2010 season. The three-part series features internationally acclaimed chefs Anthony Bourdain, Jacques Pépin, Eric Ripert, Emeril Lagasse, Ingrid Hoffmann, Daisy Martinez and Lorena Garcia engaging in a series of intimate interviews, live cooking demonstrations and question-and-answer sessions with audience members on the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall stage.

Arsht Center is pleased to continue the partnership with Johnson & Wales University (JWU), a recognized leader in career education. College of Culinary Arts students from JWU have the monumental opportunity to work closely with the celebrity chefs throughout the series. Not only do JWU students have the opportunity to learn directly from role models within their industry, but they also enjoy a family style dinner with the celebrity chefs before each show. Students will also prepare the chef’s featured dish to be sampled at the post-show VIP cocktail hour, and a select group of high-achieving students will assist on stage during the cooking demonstration.

“We are very pleased the Celebrity Chef Series is returning to the Center, and that we are able to provide this once-in-a-lifetime experience to our students,” says Loreen Chant, president of Johnson & Wales University North Miami Campus. “During the inaugural 2008-2009 series, 100 students had the opportunity to get up-close-and-personal with some of the greats within the culinary world, which is a dream come true for them.”

Loreen Chant graduated from the Providence Campus of JWU with a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management and continued her education earning her M.B.A at Nova Southeastern University. She has been with JWU’s North Miami Campus since its inception in 1992. Originally hired as campus registrar, she was VP for nearly eight years, and was named president upon the retirement of founding President Donald McGregor in 2008.

One of the main reasons this partnership has been so successful is due, in large part, to her ability to engage others, like the Adrienne Arsht Center, in the process to collectively accomplish important mission-based goals. As evident by this partnership, Chant focuses her efforts on strengthening the campus’ relationships in the community by developing strategic partnerships with nonprofit organizations that fit the university’s core giving areas, including education, children and families, and hunger and homelessness.

Chant is currently vice chair of United Way of Miami Dade’s Women’s Leadership Council and a member of Les Dames d’Escoffier International’s Miami Chapter. Earlier this year, she completed the Senior Executive Leadership Program with the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. In 2008, she was named as a finalist in the education category for the March of Dimes of South Florida’s Building a Community Awards, and in 2009, the South Florida Business Journal honored her as one of the top Influential Business Women.

Her advice for aspiring leaders is to surround one’s self with “good people who are totally aligned with the mission and goals of the organization,” to be genuine and fair, listen more than you talk and to always remember “there is no substitute for preparation,” a lesson Chant learned as a volunteer firefighter, following in the footsteps of her father and older sister.

“The experience provided insights into the importance of training, preparation and teamwork that really are core to my values today,” she says.
